Why is My AC Not Blowing Cold Air?

Expert Tips

Are you stuck with an air conditioner that isn’t cooling well? Or maybe it’s not cooling at all? Don’t worry! Check the things below, then call us at Vons Heating and Cooling for air conditioning repairs if you can’t solve the problem yourself. We’ll help you find the solutions you need fast.

Double Check Your Thermostat

If your AC is not blowing cold air, your first stop should be to check your thermostat. These can get bumped, which can mess up all of your settings. Your thermostat may also need batteries or have a power supply problem. If it ran out of batteries recently, you may need to redo all of your settings before it will work right again.

Change the Air Filter

Next, check your air filter. If you can’t see light through it, change it and try the AC again. If this filter gets too clogged or dirty, your air conditioner won’t work right and you won’t have the cooling power you need to keep your home comfortable all summer.

A Refrigerant Leak

Refrigerant is what helps your AC system produce cool air. If you’re wondering, “Why is my AC not blowing cold air?” check for a leak in this system. Visible leaks will produce moisture that is not water in or around the outdoor AC unit. You may need to call a pro to check for internal leaks, though.

An Evaporator Coil or Condenser Problem

If your evaporator coils have mold or mildew growing on them, or if they are freezing up, your air conditioner won’t work well. You may be able to see these coils if you remove the housing on your outdoor AC unit. However, they can be hard to access. You may need to check and see if the water pipes running to and from the unit feel particularly cold or frozen.

If nothing else is wrong with your AC, your condenser may have worn out. You can’t really check this on your own without specialized equipment, but you can call us and we will check it for you.

Clogged or Blocked Air Intakes and Registers

It’s worth it to walk around your house and check your air registers. If these are blocked or clogged, your AC won’t cool well. You may not be able to see this as clogs can also occur inside your ductwork.

If your air conditioner is not cooling, you can call us at Vons Heating and Air at any time. Our air conditioning technicians  will be there soon to diagnose the problem so you can have cool air again fast!
